Rally for dreams. Artists perform protest at NYC City Hall. By Anna Galtarossa and Daniel González
Over the course of a Friday lunch hour, collaborating artists Anna Galtarossa and Daniel González will lead a staged rally around the NYC City Hall. The performance-protest demands that dreams be permitted to return to New York City. Galtarossa and González argue that their public art project Chili Moon Town can act as a dreamcatcher for New York City.
The artists ask that the necessary permits be granted in order to bring Chili Moon Town to the Lake at Central Park: the heart of the city of everyone’s dreams. All are invited to join the crowd in pajamas marching with a band, triggering an explosion of shiny balloons, colorful placards, glittering banners and leaflets expressing the Manifesto of Dreams:
HERE *DREAMOCRACY* REINS
DREAMS AS A SOCIAL COMMITMENT
DREAMS AS A POPULAR COMMON DENOMINATOR
WE WANT TO SHOW THAT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE
THROUGH ART & BEAUTY
WE ARE ON THE THRESHOLD OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS
WHERE ART IS THE TOOL OF POSSIBILITIES
AND DREAMS BECOME THE INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE
LET’S BRING DREAMS BACK TO NEW YORK
HAY QUE VOLVER A SOÑAR
CHILI MOON TOWN IN CENTRAL PARK
ABOUT CHILI MOON TOWN
Chili Moon Town was conceived by artists Anna Galtarossa and Daniel González as a
utopian floating city. It is a glittering archetype of the urban environment; a metropolis
with futuristic handmade skyscrapers that transcends stressful traffic, ethnic differences,
beliefs, and ideologies. Through two waterfalls and a tunnel the spectator gets immersed in
an explosion of neon lights, modernist quotes and popular sayings, where the traditional
melts with imaginary iconography sewn in sequins to form a world of fable.
Chili Moon Town is a floating public art installation that was born in the main lake at
Chapultepec Park in the heart of Mexico City in 2007. Created as a free city without
frontiers, the citizens of Chili Moon Town do not migrate, the city itself migrates, carrying
with it the dreams of its people. Since its inception, Chili Moon Town was created with the
intention of anchoring in the Lake at Central Park – a location that holds a singular iconic
power.
Chili Moon Town Tour received tremendous attention from the press. Over 50 articles
appeared in print publications around the world, and seven of Mexico and Latin America’s
leading radio and television networks, including CNN Español and BBC World, broadcast
interviews and coverage of the project.
